Being prepared with the proper fishing gear is very important and will improve your fishing excursion immensely. Before you take off on your next fishing trip you will need to find the right rods & reels, and a tackle box fully stocked with the proper lures, bait, and a well put together first aid kit.

When it comes to buying a fishing rod you will need to take into consideration the type of fishing you will be doing. Determining what type of fish you are fishing for will determine the type of rod you will need. Most weekend fishers will be able to use a light weight rod, whereas deep sea fishers will need much larger and heavier rods strong enough to support the pressures a larger fish will put upon it. These fishermen may also use smaller rods in an effort to catch smaller fish to use as bait as well.

A well stocked tackle box will contain the majority of your fishing gear. Lures and bait have the most varieties of all other types of fishing gear. You can get live bait, dead bait, fake bait, and bait specifically for different kinds of fish. Lures are manmade and are available for every type of fish imaginable. You should also have plenty of hooks, extra line, weights, bobbers, a pair of needle nose pliers, and of course you first aid kit.

Also depending on what and how you plan on fishing will determine what you should wear. Always dress warm, keep a life vest handy if you are upon a boat, and if you’re fishing from shore, be sure to have your waders or boots.
